Art for Your Home: Creating Meaningful Photographs of You and Your Horse
I love the start of a new year. Not for setting unrealistic resolutions but for goal settling and having a pre spring clean. It bring the opportunity to really think about what I want from the year and that is important to me. I guess this has become more valuable to me as I’ve got older and the realisation that 2025 passed by in the blink of an eye. I use the time between Christmas and New Year to goal plan, put the Christmas decorations away and be ready to launch myself into a new fresh year.
It’s also the time I look to see what clutter I’ve accumulated over the year. This is something else I’ve homed in on more over the years. As I’ve got older I see more value in curating gorgeous artwork and preloved furniture for my home. I love collecting and creating art with meaning. I’d much rather buy created work by artists than purchase mass preproduction work. I want to remember where I was when I purchased it and collate an eclectic collection. That’s what I want for my clients collecting and commissioning my work. A gorgeous selection of photographs of you and your horse, framed and hung in pride of place with you at the centre. A collection of my printed cyanotype pictures of your favourite flower, well known country home or even keeping with an equestrian theme. Every time you pass through those rooms in your home, you’ll be able to transport yourself back to the day of the shoot or where you were when you purchased the artwork. Over time your home becomes filled with precious memories throughout your life. They became daily reminders of connections, companionships and relationships that shape your life.
I recall as a child being fascinated by walls in country estates being full of art work and gorgeous Chippendale furniture or grand pianos being full of a family photographs across generations, including much loved horses and dogs. Often with a photograph of Ronald and Nancy Reagan in there too! I think it’s that vision that has stayed with me when I think about my portrait photography.
I love the idea that we design our homes by surrounding it with items that resonate emotionally. Art work has the power to ground us and to remind us of what matters and to reflect our lives and loves.
I often collect inspiration visually too, saving interiors, artwork, horses and countryside details that feel timeless and grounding. You’ll find some of this inspiration over on my Pinterest, where I curate boards around home, heritage and equestrian living.
Now is a great time to think about the artwork you want this year. Feel free to contact me to have a chat. No commitment, just an informal chat to discuss having a shoot this year.
I look forward to chatting you soon!
