Behind the Scenes at Bramham international Horse Trials

There’s something magnetic about a cross country event —the chatter of early crowds getting coffee, the thud of hooves, and the unmistakable buzz of artisan makers, horse lovers, and spectators coming together. Last weekend, I had the pleasure of documenting a day at the Bramham International Horse Trials, capturing behind-the-scenes moments, brand stories, and the honest rhythm of rural life through my documentary brand photography style.

In this post, I’m sharing a glimpse into how I work, what I look for in a storytelling image, and why documentary-style photography is such a powerful tool for independent brands and equestrian events alike.

Unlike posed product shoots or studio sessions, documentary brand photography tells the real story— the hum of a Land Rover engine as spectators arrive, umbrellas in the wet, the familiar sight of a Land Rover Defender.

It’s the in-between moments that build trust, connect audiences to your brand, and showcase the lifestyle behind your product or service. For rural businesses, country shows, and equestrian brands, these stories are what set you apart.

The Bramham International Horse Trials is more than just an elite equestrian competition—it’s a celebration of the countryside. From the riders and grooms to the traders and families soaking up the atmosphere, there was no shortage of compelling moments to photograph.

Some of my favourite captures from the day included:

  • A stand out yellow umbrella

  • A gorgeous leather dog shaped handbag

  • The Land Rover Owners Hospitality area

  • Riders bonding with their horses in quiet corners of the show

Each image is more than a pretty picture—it’s a chapter in a bigger story.
